XYZ combined movements X sense
Source: Xsens
This video illustrates that movement chains can determine the outcome of an individual joint. It makes a difference which rotation the head makes in relation to the outcome of the shoulder joint. If the rotation fits into the movement chain, the outcome of the shoulder joint will be greater. It also shows that lifting the arm in anteflexion/abduction is more than just a movement in the glenohumeral joint.
The following joints all play a role in lifting the arm: glenohumeral joint, sternoclavicular joint, acromioclavicular joint, scapulothoracic gliding, cervical spine, Cervico Thoracic Transition, thoracic spine. If the person is in a standing position, the movement will be further supported by the lumbar spine and the lower extremities. It is important to realize that the movement is carried out to serve a purpose, such as grabbing something or pointing at something, etc.
Here, eye-hand coordination plays a significant role, meaning the eyes see something, C1C1C2 moves accordingly, and the rest of the movement chain is set in motion. Each joint supports the overall movement, in terms of timing, range of motion, and strength.
