Allow the person to sit in a relaxed and upright position. Place a small elevation under one buttock (tuber ischiadicum). This elevation initiates the desired lateral flexion. Instruct to create a lordosis (extend) of the lumbar spine and guide this movement as a facilitated active motion.
The lateral flexion and extension execute the conjunct rotation as the third parameter. The therapist's hand guides the extension and assists the person in feeling the correct direction of the shift, enabling them to perform it independently later. Simultaneously, the therapist’s hand pushes the processus transversus of each individual lumbar vertebra forward, aiding in the required rotation.
The other hand rests on the person's shoulder to ensure that during the shift, the centre of gravity stays within the support base formed by both tuber ischiadicum.
The rotation of the head in the same direction as the conjunct rotation of the lumbar spine engages the entire kinetic chain.
Ask the person to make a kyphosis (flex) of the lumbar spine. The performed flexion, along with the already present lateral flexion, brings about the appropriate rotation as the third parameter. This movement is guided by the therapist's hand, supporting the desired rotation in the flank. The other hand ensures that the shift is executed correctly.
