Pole Vault
Source: Gillette Sports
The complex movement of pole vaulting is effectively captured in this video. The horizontal progressive accelerating movement is transformed into a vertical motion, where the athlete adopts various body positions and smoothly transitions from one to the next.
By solely observing the movements from the perspective of traditional motion outcomes (flexion, extension, lateral flexion, rotation of the spine, anteflexion, abduction, adduction, external rotation, internal rotation, etc.), it is almost impossible to evaluate the movement as a whole. From the perspective of 3DMT, where three parameters are consistently integrated, it becomes much simpler to interpret the overall movement and the transformations from one body position to another.
The correct interpretation provides insight into the utilized movement chains, and if necessary, guidance can be given on where improvements are possible within the chain.
